EKS has developed significant experience and expertise in the formulas used by governments to fund health care costs. More than 60 hospitals have used our expertise over the years to assist them in maximizing government funding for their facilities.

Average Cost per Weighted Case (OCDM in Ontario)

Our service consists of analyzing cost, activity and workload statistics to ensure that the clients’ computed cost per case is complete and accurate. We have been able to improve the cost per weighted case by between 1% and 8% for our clients, thereby increasing the probabilities of receiving more appropriate government funding. Data submissions to funding agencies (OHRS, etc.)

This work is usually performed in conjunction with the Average Cost per Weighted Case consulting work discussed above. We review the hospital’s submission data to ensure it is complete, accurate and fairly presents the work performed by the hospital.

Pre and Post Construction Operating Plan and Budget (PCOP – PCOB)

Development of program budgets (revenues, costs, activity and workload measurement statistics) for new programs, expansion of existing programs from Functional Program documents and/or consultative processes with hospital management.

Chart Coding backlogs

The acute shortage of HRAs and HRTs is resulting in significant chart coding backlogs in many facilities. We have the qualified HRA and HRT resources available to provide you with one time catch-up or ongoing coding and abstracting support.

• Site visit by our project manager to determine the scope of the assignment (volumes, types of charts, specific coding requirements, etc.)
• Joint development of the assignment work plan
• In-service for our coders prior to beginning the work
• Quality checks to ensure that the work meets CIHI and client requirements
• Ongoing consultation during the assignment
• Report of findings and recommendations
• Correction of errors following submission of data to CIHI.
